When should I repaint my home?

When should I repaint my home?

Don’t wait until the paint is peeling off of its sides to repaint your house. Yes, this is a sure sign that your house does, indeed, need to be repainted pronto, but if you get it done before the exterior reaches that stage, you won’t have the only house in the neighborhood that looks unkempt. And you don’t want that, right?

Here are a few things that you need to consider:

1. Climate -

The climate that you live in has an effect on the lifespan of your paint. If you live in a damp climate with a lot of rain or snow, your paint may begin to crack, allowing dampness in. Those lucky enough to live in a drier, sunny climate will see their house paint become dull and “sunburned.” The original color will fade over the span of a few years. In either case, your home will need to be repainted every 6 to 8 years to not only keep the color looking bright and fresh, but also prevent it from peeling, cracking and fading.

1. Damage and staining –

Walk around your house every few months and check for signs of damage. Nails that begin to protrude out from the exterior walls are one sign that you need not only to repaint your house, but also repair the damaged sections. Your house may also become stained by constant water drainage (for example, around a leaky downspout) or may become a breeding ground for algae or mold. You can’t just use a power sprayer on these sections; you need to repaint the walls.

2. Preference –

Maybe you loved that particular shade of yellow when you first chose it years ago, but now you wish your house was blue. Or, you want to keep up with the changes in exterior paint trends and go in an entirely different direction. No matter the reason, you just want your house to be a different color, and there’s no better reason to repaint than that.
